The farm guest house Chateau SalMichele, nestles between the two of world’s oldest mountain ranges “The mighty Magaliesburg” and the “Witswaterburg”. Literally a few kilometres away from the Cradle of Humankind in Magaliesburg Meanders.
Chateau SalMichele is a quaint Cape Dutch farm guest house which was built in the sixties in a small farm holding of Hartebeestfontein on a foothill of the Magaliesburg mountain as residence of a school Headmaster. The house is still in its pristine condition with wooden and rock stone flooring with spacious room and an open space living room with lovely view to gardens adjoining a dining area with a brick fire place.
If you are looking for a bit of history and getting away in nature’s tranquillity to experience a real farm house living experience and to unwind and have festive peaceful moments, then the Chateau SalMichele is the place to come and de-stress yourself on a two hectors farm exclusively reserved for you in serene surroundings.
The garden is set up in a natural landscape and scene of local flower & fauna boosting with a boutique dam where the “Malachite Kingfisher” is a regular visitor. Over 30 local indigenous birds frequently visit the farm, along with that there is a rare sighting of the Blue crane and paradise flycatchers.
Waking up with rooster cocker shrills and petting sheep, goats, cows and collecting eggs every morning are some of the joys of Farm house living. The Blue monkeys, weasels, squirrels, meerkats and of course the Impalas and Gemsbok are all around the farm house. The farm house also have 110 Kalamata olive trees along with Peach, Apricot, Pomegranate, Apple, Pears, Plumps and Mulberry trees. The house is also complimented with mini herbs nursery for culinary experience of fresh ingredients to “Pluck and Use” when seasonally available.

This farm house is only a 45 minute drive from Joburg and Pretoria and is situated in the Hartebeestfontein conservancy and Magaliesburg Meanders precinct.

If you are feeling energetic or want to challenge your muscles and energy level, then there is a lot Magaliesburg Meanders offers in its surrounding e.g. hiking, river rafting, trails, fishing, balloon safari, micro-lighting, mountain biking, clay pigeon shooting, archery, horse riding, rock climbing etc. These activities can be organised with prior arrangement at extra cost or can be self sourced. We have a directory of all activities in the near surroundings.
After a hectic day of riding, fishing or climbing why not enjoy the family time with lekker braai at the Lapa and then spend the time sitting and listening to nature chorus of wild sounds of local fauna in cosy surrounding of Boma’s fire and gaze stars and the milky way on the unpolluted skylines of Magaliesburg. Soon you will feel to realise that you are sitting on the land of ancient habitats, one of the oldest treks of civilisation on the Earth .
“ The Cradle of Humankind”.
